Off to Troy and night in Canakkale

Big guns for Rusty.

Original dig site.

We left Istanbul early this morning for a drive down to Gallopoli where the bus boarded a huge ferry boat to cross the Dardanelles. In the last post I said the Bosphoros but that was incorrect. Gallopoli and this area is where terrible battles took place during WWI, the Russians, Germans, British and Austrialians had great loses here. Around 1PM we arrived at the ancient city of Troy. Not the make believe one Brad Pitt and Hollywood made for their movie. The real one, it's actual nine different levels of ancient civilizations. Very little has actually been excavated due to lack of funding. But it felt amazing to walk through the parts that have been uncovered. They believe the city is actually 4000 years old. Of course they had a wooden horse at the entrance to the site.

In the evening after we arrived at our hotel we walked downtown and there was the actual horse they used in the Hollywood movie"Troy." I also saw and of course took a picture of an actual gun from the battle at Gallopoli. Going to close for now lot's more to come, having a great trip.
